SailProud &
the Environment

A Commitment to Reduce The Landfill Material and CO2 Footprint Left by Humans.
A Goal of Preserving The Lives of Delicate Marine Life and Natural Ecosystems.

Our Plan

SailProud is a committed citizen for environmental action, taking proactive steps to encourage wildlife & habitat preservation, waste reduction, and carbon neutrality. To do this, we will consistently maintain a mindset that the products we make and the partnerships we form must actively make the world we live in a cleaner, greener, place.

What This Means
We're fundamentally changing the way we make, sell, and ship all of our gear. And it's absolutely rocked our world. In the past year we've developed our own proprietary fabric technology to use recycled plastic bottles (RPET) as high-performing polyester, secured a supply chain of ultra-sustainable hemp, bamboo, amazonian berry, coconut shells, and found factories ready to supply waste industrial acrylic that we can spin to yarn.

Our wholesale and bulk orders are sent out in recycled packaging - and not just the 100% post consumer packing list, but the boxes themselves are also reused from when our warehouse receives product from manufacturing, or even the empty box that our local coffee or new microwave came in. When possible, we bulk ship our orders so that fewer trips are required by the shipper to pick up the packages for sorting and then sending.

While not an easy or inexpensive process, it is a necessary step that we think must be taken - and immediately.

Community Involvement and Volunteerism
As active members in the communities in which we do business, SailProud executives and employees regularly donate time and energy to volunteering for beach cleanups, street-level recycling programs, community discussions, and green initiatives.

SP is proud to be a supporter and signatory of Brookline 2010, a year-long initiative to cut carbon emissions and waste in the town of Brookline, MA. The challenge is designed to raise awareness about the importance of reducing the carbon footprint of the Brookline community.

The St. Croix Yacht Club has graciously chosen to partner with SailProud for their complete regatta and competitor gear selection for the 2010 St. Croix Hospice Regatta. The choice to "go green" will prevent more than 2000 plastic bottles from destroying beautiful Caribbean waterfront and the migratory paths of critically endangered leatherback turtles.
